The family said Monday that 34-year-old Isaiah Brown’s condition remains “touch and go” after he was shot during an incident with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday morning. “I’m numb. I think we’re all kind of numb,” said Yolanda Brown, Isaiah’s sister. “It’s just a lot.”

Family attorney for unarmed man shot by deputy says failure of communication between dispatcher and officers led to shooting

Isaiah Brown, 32, was shot by a Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s deputy while Brown was on the phone with 911 dispatch, David Haynes, the Brown family attorney, said in a news conference in Spotsylvania Courthouse on Monday morning. Haynes said the deputy opened fire after mistaking Brown’s cordless phone for a gun. Brown had “communicated very clearly to dispatch that he had no weapon and there’s no reason that the deputy should not have been informed of that,” Haynes said.
