MADRID - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will be under self-quarantine until Dec 24, after French President Emmanuel Macron, whom Sanchez had met on Monday, tested positive for COVID-19, the Prime Minister s Office informed in a communique on Thursday. He will suspend all of his activity scheduled for the coming days in accordance with sanitary protocols, read the communique, adding the prime minister would also undertake a diagnostic test to know his situation and then depending on the results, to decide his agenda for the coming days.

The legislation, which passed the lower house vote by 198-138, still needs approval from the Senate before being signed into law. The bill faced opposition from conservatives in the largely Catholic country.

Spain took a significant step towards legalizing euthanasia on Thursday when its parliament voted in favor of allowing physician-assisted suicide for long-suffering patients with no hope of recovery.
The bill, which allows for euthanasia and assisted suicide for people with serious and incurable or debilitating permanent conditions deemed unbearable by the patient, was approved by a 198-138 vote. The motion received backing from Spain s left-wing coalition government, as well as the center-right Citizens party.

Madrid [Spain], December 17 (ANI/Xinhua): Spain reported the highest jump in daily COVID-19 infections in weeks Wednesday, with the Health Ministry confirming another 11,078 cases.
It s the fourth consecutive day of infection increase and the highest single-day spike since mid-November.
In light of worsening coronavirus data, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned that there could be tighter restrictions in the holiday season. If we have to make the plan stricter, don t have any doubts that the central government will ask regional governments to tighten measures, he told a parliamentary session.
At the moment, the health ministry recommends allowing people to travel to visit friends and family throughout the season, while relaxing the curfew and allowing up to 10 people to gather on festive days.
Leaders In Quarantine After Macron Tests Positive
French Prime Minister Castex, Spain s Sanchez, Portugal s Costa, top EU official Michel, all in quarantine. Several heads of state and leaders met French President Emmanuel Macron in the last 10 days leading up to his positive COVID-19 test results announced on Thursday.
Macron on Wednesday met Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa at the Elysee Palace. Costa s office announced Thursday that he entered quarantine as a precaution and will continue working remotely.
In France, Prime Minister Jean Castex and head of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand were also quarantined after being in close contact with the president on Wednesday.
