Eversource pledge to reduce gas leaks positive news for city, region (Editorial)
Updated Dec 22, 2020;
Some gas pipelines entering people’s homes can be over 100 years old.
And this aging gas infrastructure has cause for concern for some on the Springfield City Council and grassroots coalitions like Springfield Climate Justice Coalition, Arise for Social Justice and Mother’s Out Front. As chairman of the Springfield City Council’s Sustainable and Environmental Committee, Jesse Lederman has been working with representatives of Eversource to ensure that the energy company is committed to reducing has leaks in the City of Homes.
Lederman was also working with Eversource’s predecessor, Columbia Gas. In 2017, Columbia agreed to accelerate the company’s repair program. In October 2019, Eversource completed the purchase of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts for $1.1 billion.
