Springfield foundation donates $150,000 to East Forest Park Library

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Library Foundation, as part of its “Promise Realized” capital campaign, has donated $150,000 to the East Forest Park branch library.
The donation, announced Friday by the private, nonprofit foundation and Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, is slated for formal acceptance by the City Council on Monday.

That’s the message this National Library Week that runs through Saturday. Now, more than ever, we’re in need of trusted and reliable sources of information and a wide range of entertainment. Public libraries can be all that and more.
We yearn for the days when we’ll be able to roam our libraries in person again, in search of our next great read, for an undiscovered film to watch or wonderful new music to enjoy. Some libraries are already offering indoor visits by appointment, both to browse and to make use of computers.
Guy McLain's worked as librarian for the Springfield City Library’s Rare Book and Special Collections overseeing the preservation and maintenance of more than 15,000 rare books dating from circa 1475 to the 20th century.

The longtime owner of
M. L. Schmitt Electric Inc. has transferred his business to two electricians who have worked for him for many years. Thomas Schmitt transferred the electrical-contracting firm that performs residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects to new co-owners
Peter Coppez and
Jean Pierre Crevier. Coppez joined M. L. Schmitt as an apprentice in 2000. He’s a graduate of Springfield Technical Community College, the Local IBEW #7 apprenticeship program, and Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree in project management. Crevier joined M. L. Schmitt as an apprentice in 2004. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from UMass and completed the Local IBEW #7 apprenticeship program. He graduated this spring with a master’s degree in project management from Wentworth Institute of Technology. Schmitt was President of M. L. Schmitt Electric for 31 years.
