Body camera footage released by Austin police on Friday shows the moments leading up to an officer shooting 23-year-old Dylan Polinski in the leg during a SWAT standoff in January. The shooting was the first to involve police officers in 2021. Since then, officers have shot three other people. Alexander Gonzales was killed Jan. 5 after what police described as a road rage incident in which Gonzales brandished a gun at an off-duty officer. A woman was also shot during the encounter with Gonzales. Officers on Jan. 3 responded to a SpringHill Suites hotel in North Austin after Round Rock police asked for help serving a warrant on an aggravated assault charge against Polinski. Police were told Polinski was possibly armed, but police later said a weapon was not found on him.
