Introducing candidates for April’s election
By Steven Barnum, Correspondent
McDONOUGH COUNTY The League of Women Voters of McDonough County organized a virtual forum where candidates for local offices introduced themselves and spoke about why they are running.
Tri States Public Radio News Director Rich Egger moderated the forum, which included candidates for park board, library board, school board, Spoon River College Board of Trustees, and city council.
Macomb City Council:
Two candidates are competing to replace Fifth Ward Ald. Gayle Carper, who decided not to run for another term. Those candidates are Ashley Katz and Caren Bordowitz.
Bordowitz is a graphic designer in university relations at Western Illinois University. She said that she wants to use her organizational and relationship-building skills to give back to the community.

McDONOUGH COUNTY For ten years, the McDonough County United Way has hosted hundreds of guests each year, as they bid on purses and bags in a silent and live auction, benefitting local, non-profit agencies in McDonough County. While the Power of the Purse was not able to be held in the fall as it has traditionally, safety precautions have been put in place and the show will go on in 2021.
Power of the Purse, sponsored by Macomb Audiology & Hearing Aid Center and IPI Wealth Management, will be divided into a two day event at the Spoon River College Outreach Center at 2500 E. Jackson in Macomb.
