Live free and die: Michigan s motorcycle helmet law four years later

Motorcyclists who meet certain requirements have had the freedom to ride without a helmet in Michigan since 2012. Hundreds of motorcyclists are expected to rumble into Lansing on Wednesday to deliver a blunt message: Don t mess with Michigan s helmet law. “Our perspective is that this is a freedom issue and an individual rights issue,” said Jim Rhoades of ABATE of Michigan, the nonprofit cycling rights group that pushed for the 2012 repeal of Michigan s law requiring motorcyclists to wear a helmet. As for a return to that mandate, Rhoades said: “We would fight that tooth and nail. We want people to know we re not going anywhere.”

(Shutterstock) MICHIGAN The allotment of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Michigan was expecting next week is being reduced, and so far, no one is sure why. The state initially said it was told by federal officials it would receive 84,000 doses of the vaccine next week, but now state health officials are saying that the number of doses is being cut to around 60,000. Officials previously said the state was expecting several hundred thousand doses of the vaccine before the end of the year.

Michigan s First Covid-19 Vaccine Recipient Is In Grand Rapids

The first round of Covid-19 vaccines were administered and the first person to receive one in Michigan is a doctor from Grand Rapids. Dr. Marc McClelland, a pulmonologist who has been treating COVID-19 patients in the ICU, received the shot at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Four other Spectrum Health staff members have received a first dose of the vaccine. McClelland said he felt no symptoms or side effects thus far. Speaking at a virtual news conference to WZZM TV, McClellan states, Having seen what I ve seen over the last several months and having lived in this COVID world now, this is clearly the path forward and the answer. I am very hopeful right now.
