LCSO partners with FSU CARD to promote autism awareness

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â The Leon County Sheriff s Office is going all-in for this year s Autism Awareness Month in April with a partnership with Florida State University s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities.
LCSO will be participating in FSU CARD s Autism Spectrum Disorder and Law Enforcement: Recognition and Response training for the second year in a row.
During this training, which will take place on Tuesday, LCSO school resource deputies will be provided information about the characteristics of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and how ASD may affect school success.

JHARKHAND: When Devika Bhaduri realised there was no medical facility to help her three-year-old daughter stricken with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), she thought of doing something which could help others as desperate as her. She set up her own ‘Autreat Wellness Centre,’ which has occupational and speech therapy aids for the children suffering from the disease.

Cape Town - April marks Autism Awareness Month and Director for Action in Autism, Kirsten Miller, said while awareness is needed, respect and acceptance of those with neurological differences is also needed.
âAutistic people have called for neurotypical people to move beyond awareness. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is their reality, their voices and lives. Everyone knows about ASD, we need to open up our spaces and be more inclusive.â
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the functional abilities in an individualâs cognitive, emotional, social and physical domains. Autism can be diagnosed at any age. It is important to note that autism is a spectrum of disorders existing in several variations, so it differs from individual to individual.
