Death of car prowler involved in police shooting ruled a suicide

Grishchuk, the suspected car prowler involved in a shooting with police Saturday, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred on Saturday, when an person called police and reported a man broke into their vehicle parked near Fifth Avenue and Cannon Street. When they confronted Grishchuk, they said that he pointed a gun at them. According to police reports, Grishchuk may have found the alleged victim’s handgun, which was loaded and secured in their vehicle. Spokane Police arrived to find Grishchuk armed with the gun inside the vehicle. According to the investigation, police began to give commands and one shot was fired at officers from the vehicle, resulting in officer Brandon Roy firing back at Grishchuck. Deputies investigating death of couple in Spokane Valley apartment

KXLY April 18, 2021 12:32 PM Connor Sarles Updated: SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. Spokane Valley deputies are investigating the death of a couple at an apartment complex Saturday evening. Authorities say family members had arrived at the apartment near Skyview and Clinton around 9 p.m. on Saturday, but were unable to enter. They told deputies they could see into the apartment and saw a woman on the floor unconscious. While first responders were on their way, the family members forced the door open. The couple inside a man and a woman were both dead. Detectives and the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office are working to determine the cause of their deaths, and the Sheriff’s Office is getting a search warrant to reenter the apartment and collect evidence.

Police identify man suspected of killing Spokane mother

KXLY April 17, 2021 1:45 PM Erin Robinson Updated: SPOKANE, Wash. Nearly a week after a Spokane mother was murdered, police have identified the man believed to be responsible. Joshua Phillips, 41, who worked as a registered nurse at Eastern State Hospital, is facing charges of second-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Kassie Dewey and second-degree attempted murder of Dewey’s young daughter. He was booked into jail Saturday afternoon. Dewey’s body and the young girl were found in their garage on Sunday night. The Spokane County Medical Examiner said Dewey was stabbed to death and suffered injuries to her torso, head and upper extremities.
