They bemoaned the lack of true community-based policing.
And they were all Portland officers and supervisors who chose to leave the state’s largest police force in the last year.
In 31 exit interview statements, the employees who turned in their badges or retired were brutally frank about their reasons for getting out.
“The community shows zero support. The city council are raging idiots, in addition to being stupid. Additionally, the mayor and council ignore actual facts on crime and policing in favor of radical leftist and anarchists fantasy. What’s worse is ppb command (lt. and above) is arrogantly incompetent and cowardly,” one retiring detective wrote.

SPOKANE, Wash. A former Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy who lodged a compliant about another deputy’s racist behavior is suing the sheriff’s office after he says he was harassed for making the complaint.
Former deputy Andrew Richmond filed the lawsuit in District Court on March 30 claiming retaliation, racial discrimination and constructive discharge.
According to the lawsuit, Richmond, a black deputy, reported Sergeant Jeffrey Thurman in December 2016 after hearing him ask another deputy if he was ready to “kill some n .”

SPOKANE, Wash – A former Spokane County Sheriff’s deputy is suing his former department, saying he was subject to racist comments by a former sergeant and was also not protected from retaliation for reporting the comments to his supervisors.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation stemmed from an internal complaint, in which a co-worker said he overheard Thurman on the phone saying “You ready to kill some (racial slur) tonight or what?”
Thurman was also accused of sexual harassment.
According to a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, the person who made the complaint, Andrew Richmond, was told his identity would not be shared with anyone.
