SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane Public Schools Board voted to move toward a partnership with the Spokane Public Facilities District and Spokane Civic Theater and negotiate on the plan to build a new stadium in downtown Spokane.
“I don’t know that we’ll be able to get there with negotiations. You know, part of negotiations is to throw out there what you hope to achieve for your constituents and stakeholders and I think this does that,” said board vice president Mike Wiser.
“There’s going to be stuff that we’re maybe not going to be able to address, but I think that what we have here is getting there as close as possible,” said board member Aryn Ziehnert.

SPOKANE, Wash. The Spokane Public Schools Board could vote on a proposal for a new downtown sports stadium during a special session Wednesday night.
The board has not publicly stated when they intend to vote, but the meeting docket changed Wednesday morning from saying the board would “discuss” the proposal to include “potential action” on it.
The Downtown Spokane Partnership approached the SPS Board with the proposal for a 5,000-seat stadium in March. If approved, it would be home to SPS football and soccer games, and DSP said it will also bring a new professional soccer team to town, which would also play at the stadium.

SPOKANE, Wash. In response to the proposed downtown stadium, Spokane Civic Theatre expressed their concerns over the challenges the proposal could create for them.
In the statement, they described how last month, after the Downtown Spokane Partnership’s (DSP) March 2 presentation and Spokane Public School’s (SPS) March 10 board meeting, they would have to soundproof the theater in order to continue operations if the stadium were to be built. Also, they said that the impact of simultaneous events at the Spokane Arena, The Podium, theatre and proposed stadium should be studied.
Earlier this month, they said they discussed with Spokane Public Facilities District CEO Stephanie Curran and SPS Board President Jerrall Haynes about potential parking mitigation, soundproofing needs and a request for “the visibility of the theatre and community impact as a piece of the larger puzzle moving forward.”
Spokane residents can again weigh in on whether they prefer a new stadium downtown, or on Joe Albi’s current site. Spokane Public Schools is set to begin
