An educator, civil rights activist, a community leader: That is how a family friend describes the former president of the Spokane Coalition for Human Rights, Denny Yasuhara.
He is one of the name sakes of three new SPS middle schools. They will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Denny Yasuhara Middle School, Wednesday at 4 p.m. The construction will cause some delays at the intersection of East Foothills Drive and Hamilton Street. The entrance to the construction site is on Perry Street just off North Foothills Drive.

SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward received her second dose of the COVID vaccine on Thursday, meaning she is now completely vaccinated.
She received it at Gonzaga’s vaccination clinic, saying both shots were painless and urged others to join her to move Spokane and the state forward.
“And we heard from the Governor today, we get to that 70 percent of first initiated vaccines we’re open, and I think we can do it before June 30th,” Woodward said.
While the state has been in-pause for the past week-and-a-half, she said the city has been working hard to create pop-up clinics, opportunities for people to get vaccinated and make getting a vaccine more convenient and accessible.
Spokane Public Schools board to vote on downtown stadium proposal Wednesday

SPOKANE, Wash. The highly contested decision about a new downtown stadium for the Spokane Public School District is expected to come to an end on Wednesday.
The school board will vote on the issue in a public meeting over Zoom that begins at 5 p.m. To attend the meeting, register on the school district s website.

SPOKANE, Wash. Many Washington counties are struggling to meet the state’s metrics to remain in Phase 3. Spokane is one of the counties on the verge of getting moved back to Phase 2 which will affect nearly every aspect of people’s lives.
If the county is rolled back, retail, dining, fitness centers and all indoor gatherings will go back to 25% capacity. Outdoor gatherings will also be limited to 200 guests. Youth Sport facilities will also have to cancel tournaments. It’s a sad reality for Jared Tikker who runs The Warehouse.
“We’re heartbroken about it because there was a sense of optimism amongst the kids that play in these tournaments that after 12 months they finally got something back that they loved,” Tikker said.
