Smith County Cops Make Arrest In Jackson Heights Shooting Case

The Smith County Sheriff Office informed us of an arrest they made in their investigation into a shooting that took place on Jackson Avenue in the Jackson Heights community of Chapel Hill on Tuesday May 11th. Police report that they received a call about a drive by shooting and upon their arrival, authorities found a male victim with a gunshot wound who was later transported to a Tyler hospital. His condition remains unknown at the time of this article. The police went on to report that the suspect vehicle used in the shooting was a red and black late model Chevrolet Camaro and they were able to locate the vehicle on CR 489 near Tyler. Smith County officers set up surveillance on the vehicle and identified that the car belonged to 19-year old Jaylon Cross of Jackson Heights.

The officer arrived at the caller’s home in the 1500 block of Parklen St. finding Thaddeus Cordell Taylor, 19, of Tyler, walking around the house beating on the doors. According to the affidavit, Taylor told the three people in the house he would shoot them if they did not put his girlfriend out of the house. Taylor then fired off several shots. The gun and shell casings were found at the scene.

Author: Favian Quezada Updated: 10:44 AM CDT May 12, 2021 CHAPEL HILL, Texas The Smith County Sheriff s Office says one person is in custody in connection with a shooting that occurred in the Jackson Heights community of Chapel Hill. According to the sheriff’s office, at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 3400 block of Jackson Avenue. Deputies found a 29-year-old man with at least one gunshot wound.  The man was taken to a local hospital and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.
