Buckeyes Take Game 1 vs Indiana 3-2

Share COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior Garrett Burhenn had another good start and his bullpen backed him up with three hitless innings at the Buckeyes took game one of a huge four-game weekend series with Big Ten leading Indiana 3-2 on Friday night. The win improves the Buckeyes to 9-7 on the season while Indiana losses for just the fourth time this year and is now 11-4 overall. Burhenn was coming off his best outing of the season last Friday and he didn’t miss a beat tonight vs. the Hoosiers. He was in control from the start, going six innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out five. He picks up his second win of the season.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s pitchers ruled the day as the Buckeye collected 28 strikeouts and limited league-leading Indiana to just two runs in a double-header sweep on Saturday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium. The Buckeyes (11-7) won game one 6-0 behind a 17-strikeout, complete game shutout from Seth Lonsway. In the night cap, the combo of Jack Neely, Griffan Smith and TJ Brock combined for 11 strikeouts and held IU to just two runs in a 5-2 victory. At the plate, Zach Dezenzo, Mitchell Okuley and Kade Kern each had two hits. Dezenzo’s two hits both were solo home runs in the first inning of each game to get the Buckeyes jump-started. Conner Pohl also had a home run on the day.

Share MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Ohio State got a trio of two-run homers and a strong outing from starter Will Pfennig as the Buckeyes earned a split this weekend with a 6-4 win over Nebraska. After dropping the first two games on Friday, the Buckeyes rebounded with two wins and are now 5-3 through the first two weekends. Nebraska lost for just the second time this season. Junior Will Pfennig allowed a pair of runs on four hits in the first inning but then settled in. He retired the next 15 batters and left the game with two outs and a 4-2 lead in the seventh. The Mason, Ohio native went 6.2 innings, allowing just the two runs on five hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Buckeyes Drop a Pair to Iowa and Nebraska

Share MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – It was a tough day for the Ohio State baseball team inside US Bank Stadium as it dropped a pair of games on Friday, falling 4-0 to Iowa and the losing 10-4 to Nebraska. The Buckeyes are now an even 3-3 on season and will continue their four-game weekend in Minneapolis on Saturday with a game against Iowa. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. The weekend will conclude with one more game against Nebraska on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Mitchell Okuley hit two solo home runs in the game vs. Nebraska and now has three homers on the season. Brent Todys was also 2-for-4 against the Huskers and Sam Wilson collected a pair of hits on the day including a homer of his own in game two.
