Jay Hanson stripped of debut podium after spinning Chaz Mostert

A major penalty has been handed out following the opening race of the 2021 TCR Australia Racing Series season as podium finisher Jay Hanson was given a time penalty for his role in a move that saw him take the third place finish.
After the shortened 20 lap race around Tasmania’s Symmons Plains Circuit stewards have announced that third placed finisher Hanson will be given a ten second penalty, dropping him to seventh place and elevating fellow series debutant Josh Buchon to the podium for HMO Customer Racing.
Hanson’s penalty comes from contact he made in the closing stages of the race in his Ash Seward Motorsport prepared Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV TCR, spinning the Audi RS 3 LMS of Chaz Mostert which took the Melbourne Performance Centre driver out of third place.
Jordan Cox has taken the championship lead in the TCR Australia Racing Series thanks to a second win on the second day of racing at Symmons Plains, clean sweeping the Tuesday running. Former Supercars Championship driver Lee Holdsworth got his first taste of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR that he is going to drive in the 2021 TCR Australia series season for Ash Seward Motorsport.
“The Alfa is really fun. I’m having a ball inside the car while I get my head around it,” said Holdsworth.
“The Alfa has amazing braking capabilities. It’s good fun with the paddle shift too, so I’m really enjoying it and becoming to get more comfortable, despite the weather.”
Holdsworth made his full-time Supercars debut in 2006 and has raced there since, describing the difference between a Supercar and TCR car as “significant”.
