LUCKNOW: On day 2 of deliberations over the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, the construction committee, in principle, approved the design of the foundation.
However, Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra general secretary Champat Rai, who also participated in the meeting, claimed that the finer points of the temple design came up for discussion among the experts and the persons concerned in the meeting.
A senior official in the Uttar Pradesh public works department has begun the process of deducting a day’s salary from PWD employees as “voluntary” contribution towards building a Ram temple in Ayodhya, angering staff who said their permission had not been taken.
Rajpal Singh, engineer-in-chief of the development section of the PWD, has purportedly written to a bank at Hazrathganj in Lucknow seeking to open an account in the name of “PWD Ram Mandir Welfare”. The letter, dated January 9, 2021, mentions that a day’s pay would be deducted from the salaries of PWD employees and the amount would be deposited in this account.

Opposing the fund collection drive launched by Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, senior Dalit leader Gurushant Pattedar said the BJP-led government’s move to collect funds for this was unconstitutional.
Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said that PM Modi was collecting funds from common people through the trust in the name of constructing Ram temple. “The government should neither collect funds from citizens nor allocate budget for construction of the Ram Temple,” he added.
The government should instead focus on using public funds for the comprehensive development of society, Mr. Pattedar said.
