COLOMBO, March 17 (Xinhua) Sri Lanka s health authorities, on Wednesday said that over 800,000 local citizens in the island s main Western Province had received the AstraZeneca vaccinations against the COVID-19 virus as a mass scale inoculation program was underway since early February.
Sri Lanka s Health Ministry said that those who had received the vaccinations included front line workers who were the first to receive the jab, in the province which included capital Colombo.
Since the weekend, health officials said that citizens above the age of 60 years, residing in the Western Province were being prioritized and the vaccination program which was open to all above the age of 30 years had been suspended. The program is presently being carried out to those only above the age of 60 until further notice, health officials said.
