Nestlé is one of the first F&B companies in Sri Lanka to receive the “Covid-19 Safety Management System” certification of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI). The certification verifies that Nestlé Lanka’s sites are protected from risk of exposure to Covid-19, and that all recommended safety measures are in place across its activities, products and services.

Neelika Malaviga, a university professor known for her work in researching COVID-19, is among the winners of this year’s Top 50 Professional and Career Women Awards 2020, by Women in Management (WIM), in collaboration with Women in Work, a partnership between IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, and the government of Australia.
The awards – now in their tenth year – saw inspirational business and career women honored for the roles they have played in their industries, along with Sri Lankan corporates which have supported the growth and empowerment of women in the workplace.

The purported “sacking” of the Lanka Sathosa Chairman over what was described as a “scandal” in the procurement of rice captured intense media attention, but Nushad Perera, who headed the country’s biggest retail chain, dismissed the claims as “bunkum”.
“I was neither sacked as Chairman nor was there a ‘rice deal’, as claimed”, he said last week.
He said that he resigned on December 31, 2020, to take up his new appointment as Chairman of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) as the President wanted him to build up the national standards body to broad-base benchmarking the country’s export sector.
