Thief jailed for breaking into five cars

A thief has been jailed for 16 weeks after pleading guilty to breaking into a number of cars in an early-morning crime spree. Lee Allen, 32, of Station Road, Swindon, pleaded guilty to five counts of theft from a motor vehicle and five counts of motor vehicle interference. The offences relate to a spate of incidents in Ogbourne St George in the early hours of November 28. Several vehicles in the village were broken into. A police officer examined CCTV footage from the scene and recognised Allen. So the officer then went to arrest Allen and took him into custody. PC Alanna Wakeford, from the neighbourhood policing team in Marlborough, said: “The items stolen from the vehicles, such as sunglasses and CDs, were of relatively low financial value.

Police secure court order on Chippenham property WILTSHIRE Police have secured a three-month court order to crack down on anti-social behaviour and drugs activity at a house in Chippenham. They were granted a partial closure order for a property in Derriads Green, Chippenham, after neighbours voiced concerns about what was happening there. Officers from the Chippenham Area Community Policing Team worked with partners to secure the court order. It means that nobody apart from the named occupant is allowed to enter the property and anyone found there will be committing an offence and may be arrested. The partial closure order, which will last for three months, was granted by Swindon Magistrates Court earlier this month.

Environmental health officers from Wiltshire Council’s food and safety team were sent to remove over 2t of fresh meat, including beef, lamb and goat meat from sale to the public. They found the meat being cut and packed for delivery throughout the UK in a second hand car wash premises in Ludgershall. The council’s officers, working with a Food Standards Agency (FSA) veterinary officer, searched the business at 23 Andover Road under warrant on November 27 and found whole and part carcases again being cut in poor conditions, which exposed the meat to the risk of contamination.
