Alleged prostitution ring member appears before magistrates

By Advertiser Reporter AN ALLEGED member of a Swindon prostitution ring has appeared before the magistrates. Gigi Ciobanica, 43, is accused of facilitating the travel of women with a view to them being sexually exploited by paying for flights from Romania, collecting a woman from the airport and driving her to known brothels . Prosecutors also claim he collected the earnings of another woman and sent money back to Romania. The offences are alleged to have been committed between 2015 and 2018. Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning, Ciobanica, of Grasmere Road, Birmingham, entered no pleas to charges of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, conspiracy to arrange travel, possession of criminal property and money laundering.

Court cases include emergency worker assault in Salisbury

TWO of the cases heard at Salisbury Magistrates Court: SCOTT MORGAN LLOYD, aged 29, of Hernog Close, Llandrindod Wells in Wales, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a vehicle while exceeding the legal alcohol limit. The incident was recorded on August 27 last year when Lloyd was responsible for a Ford Transit along Glendale Road in Durrington, with 67 microgrammes of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of breath. He was fined £80 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34. He was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 40 days. CAMERON MACKAY, aged 33, of Rougemont Close, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting an NHS nurse by beating in Salisbury on January 22. As reported on our website, he had previously reported not guilty. Mackay was ordered to pay compensation of £150.

JPs remand alleged Haydon Wick attacker in custody

By Advertiser Reporter Swindon Magistrates Court A MAN has been remanded in custody over allegations he attacked another in Haydon Wick on Tuesday. Lewis Butterfield, 28, is said to have struck his victim, who is in his 20s, repeatedly to the head. The alleged assault saw part of Thames Avenue cordoned off by police earlier in the week. Swindon magistrates’ this morning heard the victim had suffered a brain injury and was taken to hospital. It is understood he remains at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning, Butterfield, of White Eagle Road, entered no plea to a charge of wounding with intent. The charge is indictable-only, meaning that pleas can only be taken at the crown court.
