Researchers have flipped traditional 3D printing to create some of the most intricate biomedical structures yet, advancing the development of new technologies for regrowing bones and tissue.
The emerging field of tissue engineering aims to harness the human body s natural ability to heal itself, to rebuild bone and muscle lost to tumours or injuries.
A key focus for biomedical engineers has been the design and development of 3D printed scaffolds that can be implanted in the body to support cell regrowth.

The One Club for Creativity has announced 54 entries from Australia and New Zealand have been selected as finalists by its global juries of top creative leaders for The One Show 2021. Australia has scored 46 finalists, whilst New Zealand has 14.
From the One Show’s initial shortlist of 120 finalists, announced in April, the final shortlist sees 46 Australian finalists, that will go on to win a Gold, Silver, Bronze Pencil or Merit at this year’s One Show, to be announced on June 10 during the online Creative Week 2021.

New network for mental health research
A new national collaboration to transform the way mental health treatment is developed and tested will be led by Deakin University and partners including The University of Western Australia, with $12 million support from the Federal Government’s Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).
The Mental Health Australia General Clinical Trial Network (MAGNET) will start as a five-year project that will be funded through the MRFF’s Million Minds Mission, as recently announced in the Federal Budget.
Professor Sean Hood, Head of UWA Medical School’s Psychiatry Division, and Osvaldo Almeida, Professor in Psychiatry, also from the UWA Medical School, are among 50 chief investigators involved in the project.
