Leechburg Hall of Fame induction slated
The 17th annual Leechburg Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony will be May 16 at Gilpin Fire Hall, 113 Firehall Road.
Bishop Larry Kulick of the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg will be master of ceremonies. Individuals being inducted into the Hall of Fame include Ryan Sprankle, Doug Sprankle, Joe Felchow and Mark Maszgay, posthumously.

Derek Kubilus is no cookie-cutter United Methodist minister.
He has the dynamic voice of a talk radio host, brings his two Great Pyrenees to Bible study, and calls himself “vicar” rather than “pastor.”
Though he has historical and theological reasons for using that title, Kubilus acknowledges it’s also a way of standing out a rhetorical bow tie.
“Honestly, I just like to be different,” he said.
Kubilus, leader of Uniontown United Methodist Church in Uniontown, Ohio, stepped out even further in late January when he launched a podcast called
When genealogist Shamele Jordon decided to find a way to bring history alive for students at the Lawnside Elementary School in New Jersey, she found the answer in their backyards in the African American community.
Students are discovering sites and burial grounds in the South Jersey borough, a stop on the Underground Railroad that sheltered runaway slaves. They are also learning about ancestors and historical figures who developed Lawnside.
Jordon, a researcher, teamed with Muneerah Higgs, a retired Lawnside third-grade social studies teacher, to create a Black History Month project for third to eighth graders called âVisualizing Your Past.â They hope to instill pride by giving students a birds-eye view of their history.
