During a graduation season full of high school and college commencement ceremonies, one ceremony this week stood out with a collection of graduates from area literacy groups. The Ardmore Literacy Leadership on Thursday recognized learners for completing their high school diploma, GED, English as a Second Language, Spanish language or U.S. citizenship test.
Over 100 guests were on hand at the Colvert Ministry Center to celebrate the graduates including families, tutors and other supporters. Oklahoma Rep. Mauree Turner, an Ardmore native, provided a recorded message and Ardmore City Commissioner John Credle addressed those in attendance.
ALL organizations represented on Thursday included Ardmore Family Literacy, Ardmore Public Library, New Dimension Literacy Council, Boys and Girls Club of the Red River Valley, and St. Mary Catholic Church.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund of the Greater Evansville Region has awarded two new rounds off allocations.
The 15th round granted $282,000 to 12 nonprofit agencies and the 16th round granted $347,000 to another 12 organizations.
Officials say a total of 28 organizations applied for these two rounds.
Grants for these two rounds will go toward funding mental health and suicide prevention training, after-school programming, financial literacy classes and transportation services for vulnerable populations.
Money will also go toward underwriting building upgrades, the Delaware courtyard project and upgrades to the Bike Share program.

Bring Back Louisiana targets residents in low vaccination areas
After battling COVID-19 in March 2020, Rev. James S. Hardison, Sr., made a promise to himself and God that he would help others not go through the same ordeal.
Last Friday and Saturday, Hardison s church Greater Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church on Fenner Street, was one of the COVID-19 vaccinations sites for Bring Back Louisiana.
The Region 6 Office of Public Health, CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center and the Louisiana National Guard were assisting with the program at both Greater Live Oak and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church on 16th Street. The Pfizer vaccine was administered to those wanting to be vaccinated.
