The Class of 2021 of the National Charity League Kings Trails Chapter recently completed their senior project in support of the K-9 Airlift Rescue Barn in Huffman.
The rescue barn is a 501(c)(3) rescue and sanctuary for horses, donkeys, pigs and chickens as well as other animals.
The girls organized a supply drive in partnership with the Kings Trails Chapter and the Kingwood Fillies. Chicken-nesting boxes were constructed by the Kingwood High School construction technology class taught by Shellie Dick. The girls then painted the boxes to create a cheerful atmosphere at the barn. The project culminated in a workday where the girls and their moms fed the animals, collected and cleaned eggs, washed saddles, and did other barn chores.
A few years, lot of kitchens later Written by Tom Broad Published: 11 January 2021
The chaotic restaurant scene was right out of a Hallmark movie. A crazy busy night at Outback Steakhouse. The frustrated night manager is one staffperson short in the kitchen. The kid waiting tables is sent back to the kitchen to help.
Kid crushed it!
“Hey kid, you should do this for a living,” he was told.
A few years and a lot of kitchens later that same kid, Justin Turner, finds himself about to, in his words, “… curate one of the most delicious and wonderful culinary and hospitality ecosystems in Houston.”
Insperity Observatory reopens to public Written by David Tatchin Published: 11 January 2021
The Insperity Observatory in Humble ISD reopened its doors to the public Dec. 4 after a long closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Aaron Clevenson, director of the observatory, shared his thoughts regarding the reopening. He explained that he and his fellow researchers have been following strict safety protocols due to the pandemic and were thus forced to close for several months over the summer. Recently they reopened for the public once again (although the internal facility is still closed).
To creatively allow the public to still interact with the observatory, Clevenson said, “Currently, we project images that are relayed by our telescopes onto a wall outside of the building so visitors can still gain a meaningful experience.”
