Son held in West New York woman’s death, but autopsy results could lead to more charges

A West New York man has been charged with aggravated assault after his mother was found dead inside their home, authorities said.
West New York police responded to 439 66th Street at 1:30 p.m. Thursday and found 62-year-old Irma L. Pons Gonzalez unresponsive in a bedroom, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Pons Gonzalez was pronounced dead 16 minutes later.
Emmanuel Gonzalez, 33, Pons Gonzalez’s son, who was home when police arrived, has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault, Suarez said.
The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed after the cause and manner of Pons Gonzalez’s death are determined by the state Regional Medical Examiner, officials said.

The HCPO Homicide Unit arrested Darius Evans, 45, of Jersey City, in connection with the stabbing death of 39-year-old Tyrone Haskins on January 1st in Jersey City, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Evans was arrested after he turned himself in with his attorney today just after 12 noon at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City. He previously had been charged in connection with the murder and a warrant had been issued for his arrest.
Evans is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
