It was hard and it was something I just knew right away, remembers Jenn Chalifoux. She was 18 and on leave from college, at home in Long Island to receive treatment for anorexia, when she realized she was pregnant. Since a common side effect of anorexia is amenorrhea (a cessation of the menstrual cycle), missed periods didn t sound the alarm bell. She was surrounded by doctors, having blood work frequently, and on birth control. It didn t even occur to me that I might [be pregnant], she recalls. My medical team thought my menstrual cycle would return as I progressed in my recovery. When it didn t, months into her treatment, Chalifoux took a pregnancy test at a friend s house. Thousands of allocations of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are coming to the Hudson Valley - possibly as soon as this weekend - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
In the Hudson Valley region, 19,200 allocations have been designated from the state’s initial 170,000 vaccinations that are being shipped out from the Hudson Valley-based pharmaceutical company.
Each of the state’s 10 regions received varying allocations, depending on the population in that area. Only New York City’s 72,000 and Long Island s 26,500 allocations are higher statewide.
“This is a massive undertaking,” Cuomo said. “People have not focused enough on the extent of what this undertaking means. I can’t think of a single governmental operation that has been more intricate and essential than what governments will be asked to do here.
