The U.S. population grew by 0.48 percent from 2018 to 2019, the slowest rate in 100 years, according to Stacker. Despite that, many parts of the Hudson Valley are growing.
Stacker made a list of the fastest-growing counties in New York using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Counties were ranked by the highest population growth from 2010 to 2019, based on 5-year estimates.
Stacker ranked the 30 fastest-growing counties in New York. Three counties from the Hudson Valley cracked the top 10 while four were ranked in the top 30.
Westchester County was the highest-ranked county from the Hudson Valley. From 2010-2019 the population change was nearly 30,000 people. Rockland County ranked seventh. The population increased by over 6 percent from 2010-2019 with the population in Rockland County increasing by nearly 19,000.

Three young men are being called heroes after they jumped into the Hudson River on Thursday in Poughkeepsie to save a woman who did not know how to swim, officials say.
The woman fell into the water off the Waryas Park dock. As City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department firefighters arrived at the scene three young men jumped into the Hudson River and held the victim above water, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department NY Local 596 s Facebook page.
Without their help the woman would have died, fire officials say.

Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro announced Dutchess Stadium will be home to the Hudson Valley Renegades, a Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, for at least another 25 years under a new lease agreement between the Renegades and Dutchess County.
“Dutchess Stadium remains an economic engine for our county, employing our neighbors, attracting thousands of visitors from throughout the region and adding revenue which offsets taxes for County residents and businesses, County Executive Molinaro said. The two proposals before the Legislature will enhance Dutchess County’s ability to benefit from the stadium’s use.”

On Friday, around 2 a.m. Poughkeepsie firefighters were dispatched at approximately by City of Poughkeepsie 911 for a reported structure at 5 Parker Avenue, the Walkway Over The Hudson Maintenance Center.
Firefighters arrived with heavy smoke showing from the structure and initially made entry, but conditions rapidly deteriorated and all personnel were removed from the building, officials say.
Firefighters then worked to secure enough water to support two elevated master streams and the operation went defensive, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department NY Local 596 s Facebook page.
