Stolen ID cards seized in traffic stop
Officer Kevin Sakasegawa stopped a vehicle for blowing through a red signal light at Hatch Road and Richland Avenue early Wednesday, Jan. 6 and ended up arresting an occupant for possession of stolen California drivers licenses and social security cards.
During the 12:26 a.m. car stop, Officer Sakasegawa learned that passenger Lorraine Robles-Jimenez, 30, of Modesto, is on probation for theft. He searched the car and found a bag containing the stolen ID cards.

Two arrested after Hughson home invasion, pursuit with deputies Watsonville residents Luis Garcia-Gomez, 26, and Jonathan Arias, 24, are believed to be the same men who broke into a home in the 6000 block of Fox Road in Hughson and were later captured near Ceres.
Two Watsonville men were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after they allegedly broke into a Hughson house that morning and led Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies on a wild high-speed chase.
Driver Luis Garcia-Gomez, 26, and passenger Jonathan Arias, 24, are believed to be the same men who at 3 a.m. drove up to a home in the 6000 block of Fox Road in Hughson and broke into a sliding glass door in the back of the house. The dark of dogs inside the house scared off the men who ran to a stolen white Audi. The homeowner provided video surveillance to Hughson deputies showing the car and the suspects.
COVID-19 may be delaying OK’d projects The Whitmore Towers project has been temporarily stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For some time it has seemed like once a project is approved in Ceres it gets sucked into a black hole and never sees the light of day. But some of the more recent projects could be stymied because of uncertainties associated with COVID-19 pandemic.
The periodic government shutdowns of sections of the economy particularly have a chilling effect on plans for new eateries. Excitement spread in the community last year when the Ceres Planning Commission and City Council approved plans to build Whitmore Towers, a 7,280-square-foot retail building focused on eating establishments on the triangle-shaped lot across the street from Ceres High School.
Traffic stop for headlights off nets passenger arrest Alexander Jones
A 33-year-old Oakdale man riding in a car stopped by Ceres Police for not having headlights turned on was arrested Thursday evening for an arrest warrant.
At 9:52 p.m., Officer Brian Chandler conducted the stop on Richland Avenue near Hatch Road after seeing the vehicle traveling with its headlights and taillights off.
A rear seat passenger, Alexander Jones, 33, of Oakdale, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued by Oakdale PD. Jones was also on probation for possession of a dirk/dagger.
During a search, a large dagger and drug paraphernalia were found in Jones’ backpack. He was charged with carrying a concealed dagger, possession of drug paraphernalia, probation violation and the warrant.

Manmeet “Mani” Grewal became the newest member of the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors Dec. 2 when he was sworn into office to replace the late Tom Berryhill. He becomes the first Sikh American to serve on a Board of Supervisors in California.
Grewal, 41, was appointed on Nov. 21 by Gov. Gavin Newsom to fill out Berryhill’s unexpired term in District 4 seat. The term expires in January 2023.
