Vietnam has started human trials of COVIVAC, the second homegrown Covid-19 vaccine, at the Hanoi Medical University. - The Vietnam News/Asian News Network HANOI, Jan 23 (Vietnam News Agency/ANN): Vietnam kick-start clinical trials of COVIVAC - Vietnam’s second Covid-19 vaccine candidate which was developed based on the new highly-infectious coronavirus variants - in a ceremony at the Hanoi Medical University on Jan 21.
The home-grown vaccine has been developed by the Nha Trang-based Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (IVAC) and the Hanoi Medical University since last May, using primary chicken embryo cell culture, a technique the institute used previously to successfully produce seasonal flu vaccines.

Airlines adjust flights due to bad weather in Hanoi
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines, two carriers under the Vietnam Airlines Group, have announced adjustments to flights to and from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport on January 21 due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Two flights from Ho Chi Minh City, VN248 and VN7246, will land at Cat Bi Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
Two others from HCM City, VN7206 and VN320, are to be diverted to the central city of Da Nang, while another from Buon Ma Thuot is to land at Tho Xuan Airport in central Thanh Hoa province.

Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam reported two more imported
cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, taking the
national count to 1,548,
the National Steering Committee for
COVID-19 Prevention and Control announced on
January 22.
The two patients include a 52-year-old Indian specialist who
arrived at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport on January 19.
The other is a 27-year-old Vietnamese national returning from Japan and also
arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport.
Both men have been put under quarantine upon their arrivals
and are being treated at hospitals.

10 university students signed up Thursday to be vaccinated with Covivac in its first stage of human trials in February.
Covivac, produced by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals, is the second Vietnamese-made vaccine to be tested on humans after receiving approval from the Health Ministry. The first was Nanocovax of Nanogen Pharmaceutical Biotechnology JSC that had entered trials last month.
