Kailey Dozier said she loves Goldsmith-Shiffman Elementary school, so making the decision to send her son to private school wasn t an easy one.
Some Huntsville City Schools parents are looking at another option for their child s education, following the school board s decision to make masks mandatory for those 2-years-old and up. My kid is so nervous about going to school anyways. We’re going to a big school. There are about 1,000 kids at Goldsmith and it’s a wonderful school, but then you add in the mask and he’s just a nervous wreck, said Dozier.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. There were 32 hospitalized children with COVID-19 in Alabama on Monday, a number not seen even when the state had more than 3,000 hospitalized COVID-19 patients in January, during the deadly winter surge.
Just more than a week ago Alabama hospitals were caring for nine children with COVID-19, at least one of whom was on a ventilator. Alabama’s rising cases and hospitalizations are a phenomenon being seen across the country as the more contagious delta variant takes hold.

On Monday, Huntsville City Schools is holding a meeting to discuss health and safety procedures for the upcoming school year.
The board made the decision to make masking in schools optional on July 1. That decision, made some parents concerned for their children s health.
