ATHENS, Ala. (WAFF) - Athens leaders could approve the first of many new subdivisions at the April 26 City Council meeting.
“We’re the fastest growing community and county in the state of Alabama. We’re looking at 25 percent growth rate,” said Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks.
The Council will be voting to approve rezoning a huge plot of land and to adopt the Lindsey Lane master plan.

Update: In a news release Friday evening, troopers said the incident happened at approximately 4 p.m. when a trooper stopped a 1999 Dodge Dakota with no license plate at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Huntsville Browns Ferry Road.
They say the Dodge was driven by Jerry Lee Lewis, 38, of Tanner, who ran from the vehicle to avoid arrest, and the trooper chased him on foot.
Lewis was arrested for resisting arrest, second-degree assault and attempting to elude.

Buc-ee’s closing in on January opening in Leeds

It won’t be long before the Birmingham area can get a big helping of Beaver nuggets and brisket.
Above, you can see drone footage of the new Buc-ee’s location taking shape off Interstate 20 in Leeds. Buc-ee’s has begun hiring for its Leeds location, set to open Jan. 25.
Leeds will be the second Alabama location, built off exit 140. The store exceeds 50,000 square feet and will have more than 100 gas pumps. The company, which is looking to hire up to 200 people, says it is conducting in-person interviews but asks all applicants to apply online first. To do so, click here.
