New COVID-19 tests without the nasal swab are now available in the Huntsville area for non-symptomatic people wondering if they have the disease.
Huntsville Hospital Health System and Kailos Genetics of Huntsville are teaming up on the program called the Kailos Assure Peace of Mind Program. The charge is $55 and the HH Health System will accept major credit and debit cards, but insurance, including Medicare/Medicaid, will not be accepted.
As 2020 ends, people are examining numbers no one anticipated when the year began:
4,219 people in Alabama dead as the result of a COVID-19, with another 608 probable deaths from the virus;
290,581 confirmed positive cases since March, with another 70,645 probable cases;
2,813 people hospitalized with COVID-19 on Wednesday down two patients from the record number of 2,815 on Tuesday.
And some health-care professionals, including Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, director of UAB s Division of Infectious Disease, expect the numbers to get worse.
Noting the post-Thanksgiving holiday rise in cases, and the fact that 1.3 million Americans traveled during the Christmas holiday, Marrazzo said during a press briefing that the state may see a significant increase in cases in coming weeks.
