Humboldt County Public Health confirmed five new COVID-19 cases today, while continuing to urge residents to sign up with the state s My Turn vaccine registry and fill hundreds of open local appointments this weekend. The five cases were reported after laboratories processed 156 samples with a test-positivity rate of 3.2 percent. The county s cumulative case count now stands at 3,508 after several previously reported cases were removed, with one being deemed a duplicate reporting and a handful of others traced to non-county residents. One new hospitalization was also reported today. Humboldt County Public Health confirmed just one new COVID-19 case today, while removing two others from the county s cumulative count because they were from patients who reside outside the county, resulting in a net reduction of local cases. Today s case was reported after laboratories processed 66 samples with a test-positivity rate of 1.5 percent, which with the cases removed, leaves the county case count at an even 3,500. One new hospitalization was also reported today. Earlier today, the state of California updated its COVID-19 risk tiers, it moved Humboldt County into its orange moderate tier, which allows businesses such as restaurants, gyms and movie theaters to increase indoor operations, while allowing others including bowling alleys and family fun centers to open.

Humboldt County Public Health reported today that it has confirmed 9 new COVID-19 cases since Friday after laboratories processed 564 samples with a test-positivity rate of 1.6 percent. The new cases bring the county s cumulative case count to 3,501. Friday, Public Health reported that the state would allocate 4,640 vaccine doses to the county this week more than 2,200 fewer than were received the prior week. In a press release earlier Friday, county officials noted that the number of local residents getting tested for COVID-19 has dropped considerably in recent months. This is worrisome, they said, because testing is critical for identifying and limiting the spread of disease in the community.
