In toasting a new year that’s hopefully brighter than the one we’re leaving behind, it’s a time to reflect that our region is home to an abundance of artisans making beer, wine, spirits and hard ciders that display flavors as unique and complex as the people and land that formed them. That taste like they’re from somewhere, and tell a story with every sip.

CT NEWS 2020 – The Year in Review
JANUARY
• More than 300 guests fill the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase on Jan. 25 for an elegant gala honoring Rabbi Mitchell M. Hurvitz for his 25 years as spiritual leader of Temple Sholom in Greenwich.

• The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven, in collaboration with Madison residents Bob and Amy Stefanowski, create “Masks for Heroes,” a grassroots, volunteer effort to deliver surgical masks to hospitals, nursing home residents and caregivers, medical personnel and first responders, in over 125 towns throughout Connecticut. More than 500,000 masks are given out.

Virtual shopping competition starts Dec. 13
SPRINGFIELD Rachel’s Table, the food access program of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts, is teaming up with Onedeeds, a product-based donation platform, to create Foodraiser 2020, a virtual shopping competition that anyone can participate in to feed those in need.
Foodraiser 2020, for individuals, lasts from Dec. 13 to Dec. 18, and for teams of teenagers, on Dec. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. According to a Rachel’s Table press release, all food will be sent directly to Providence Ministries of Springfield, the Amherst Survival Center and the Franklin County Community Meals Program.
