US tops 16M cases, nearly 300K deaths, but vaccines on the way

Worldwide cases: 72,385,935    Worldwide deaths: 1,615,052 U.S. cases: 16,262,304   U.S. deaths: 299,246 According to the Dashboard, the reported worldwide case report increased by 519,352  in the last 24 hours.  Deaths worldwide increased by 7,254. According to the Johns Hopkins Dashboard, the United States has added 187,793 cases in the last 24 hours. In the last day, the number of people who have died in the U.S. from  COVID-19 increased by 1,382. The COVID Tracking Project reports that 109,311  people were hospitalized nationwide with COVID-19 as of yesterday.  Hospitalization rates on the mainland have been increasing at an alarming rate, with some hospitals getting close to being overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.   On the Big Island, Hawaii County Civil Defense reported on  Sunday that 3 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.

COVID-19 testing tomorrow, Waikoloa–and elsewhere thru Sat

Hawaii County is sponsoring COVID-19 testing on Tuesday at South Kohala at the Ho`oko Park in Waikoloa Village from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., according to the Hawaii County Civil Defense Testing Update Calendar. On Wednesday, there will be COVID-19 testing at Konawaena High School in South Kona from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., and at Afook Chinen Auditorium in Hilo from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday, there will be COVID-19 testing at Waimea District Park from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday, there is COVID-19 testing at Keauhou Shopping Center, behind Regal Cinemas, conducted by Ali’i Health, from 9 a.m. until noon.  This test day is not mentioned on the Hawaii County Civil Defense calendar, although it is mentioned on the Civil Defense web site.  It may not be sponsored by the County.  Ali’i Health says on its website that their cost is generally covered by one’s insurance, but Clinical Labs may have a copay.  There’s more at the Ali’i Health site at www.aliihealthcenter.com

In the last day,  the number of people who have died in the U.S. from  COVID-19 increased by 2,073. The COVID Tracking Project reports that 108,487  people were hospitalized nationwide with COVID-19 as of yesterday.  Hospitalization rates on the mainland have been increasing at an alarming rate, with some hospitals getting close to being overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients.   On the Big Island, Hawaii County Civil Defense reported on  Saturday that 3 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.
