April 6, 2021 Governor Larry Hogan announced the expansion and acceleration of COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for all adults in the State of Maryland: Beginning today, Tuesday, April 6, all Marylanders 16 and older will be eligible to get vaccinated at mass vaccination sites. By next  Monday, April 12, all Marylanders 16 and older will be eligible to schedule appointments and get vaccinated through all providers. “We are pleased to announce another acceleration of vaccine eligibility phases much earlier than we anticipated,” said Governor Hogan. “Getting more people vaccinated as quickly as we possibly can is our absolute best defense against these variants, and it is the best way to win the long war against this deadly virus.”

That same group will be eligible to schedule appointments through all providers starting next Monday, the governor said at a news conference. Residents 16 and up represent Phase 3 of the state s rollout plan. “Appointments for any remaining individuals in Phase 1 or Phase 2 will continue to be prioritized,” Hogan said. “And Marylanders 16 or 17 years of age will only be able to utilize clinics that are providing the Pfizer vaccine, as it is only one that is currently approved by the (Food and Drug Administration) for ages 16 and over.”

Many state residents still aren t eligible to be vaccinated, but Maryland is opening pre-registration to the entire adult population in advance of an upcoming expansion of eligibility. Hogan on Thursday also announced that the mass vaccination site at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury will begin accepting no-appointment walk-ins for anyone who is eligible for a vaccine. Maryland is currently in Phase 2B of its vaccination plan, which includes all residents over the age of 16 who have underlying medical conditions that could make them prone to more severe cases of COVID-19.
