In his first major foreign policy speech as US president, Joe Biden announced on Thursday plans to end US support for the Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen. The reshaping of US relations marked by the Yemen reversal is one of a series of steps Biden laid out. It also included a tougher posture on Russia, stating that the US would no longer be “rolling over in the face of Russia’s aggressive actions.”
US support for the war in Yemen dates back to the Obama administration, when Biden was then vice president, and was doubled down in the last four years by Donald Trump. The Saudi military offensive has led to suffering in the Arabian Peninsula’s poorest country and to widespread civilian deaths resulting in the world’s greatest humanitarian crisis and a famine.
Hong Kong ordered schools to adopt a more patriotic curriculum and advised teachers to report any breaches of the city’s national security law, the government’s biggest move yet to overhaul the education system following the protests of 2019.

A teacher at a Hong Kong primary school was driven to suicide by the actions of the principal who pressured her to resign, a coroner has said.
Lam Lai-tong fell to her death from a building at TWGHs Leo Tung-Hai Lee Primary School in Tin Shui Wai in 2019, after repeated run-ins with then headmistress Law Yuen-yee.
Coroner Monica Chow said the tragedy could have been prevented, and pointed to a failure in the complaint mechanism with the school’s sponsoring body, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, as well as lack of support and care from her colleagues, as a contributing factor.
