Hong Kong s Centre for Health Protection reported 81 additional confirmed cases at a press briefing Saturday, taking the total record to 10,009.
The first two cases were discovered in Hong Kong on January 23, 2020. One year on, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has contained three waves of the outbreak.

Chan said in an online article that the unemployment rate during the Oct.-Dec. period will continue to spike and even surpass the 16-year high, a level reached recently.
Although the economy stopped shrinking in the third quarter last year and will likely return to the positive territory in 2021, the current situation has remained grim, Chan said, citing nearly 8,700 bankruptcies last year, the Purchasing Managers Index back to contraction, and the pessimism in small and medium-sized enterprises.

Two imported cases and 50 preliminary positives were also reported, according to the Centre for Health Protection. A new case in Kwun Tong Garden Estate’s Lotus Towers precipitated another order for mandatory Covid-19 testing for the building’s residents.
The new cases, which represent a slight drop from the day earlier, come as Hong Kong adds an additional week to the 14-day quarantine residents must follow upon re-entry into the city.
