Fans of the six Premier League clubs leading the breakaway European Super League have slammed the controversial plan, branding it the ultimate betrayal .
Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham are all involved in the new league, alongside Spanish trio Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Italian clubs Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
The founding clubs will share 3.5 billion euros for infrastructure investment and to offset coronavirus pandemic costs.

Fans of the Premier League clubs leading the breakaway European Super League have slammed the controversial plan, branding it the “ultimate betrayal”.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham are all involved in the new league, alongside Spanish trio Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Italian clubs Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Fan groups, former players and politicians have all condemned proposals for a breakaway European Super League.
The bombshell plan, announced on Sunday, saw six Premier League sides join with other European clubs to form a group seeking to establish a new continental competition.
Here the PA news agency looks at what has been proposed and what the response has been.
– What is the new European Super League?
The Super League’s website said the proposed league will be a competition between 20 top clubs made up of 15 founders and five annual qualifiers.
The teams will be split into two groups of ten who compete for eight spots in the knockout stages, culminating in a final.
Chelsea Supporters’ Trust said it would demand answers to the “unforgivable” proposals.
“Our members and football supporters across the world have experienced the ultimate betrayal,” read the group’s statement.
“This is a decision of greed to line the pockets of those at the top and it has been made with no consideration for the loyal supporters, our history, our future or the future of football in this country.
“This is unforgivable. Enough is enough.”
Liverpool supporters’ group Spirit of Shankly denounced the decision of US-based owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG), stating the club is “ours not theirs”.
“Embarrassing as fan representatives we are appalled and completely oppose this decision,” read a statement on Twitter.
