A team without an opponent since Dec. 5 and nearly that day as well Marauders boys basketball has been idly frozen in place this month, and barring any further changes, the program’s layoff from games will mark exactly 25 days.

Vernon wrestling coach Chad Masters was looking forward to some sort of normalcy. After spending the required time in COVID-19 contact tracing quarantine prior to and shortly after the Marauders’ season opener against Western on Dec. 2, Masters played the waiting game before returning to the wrestling room. The hospital’s inoculation station could see its first activity as soon as next week, assuming the Pfizer vaccine the first hope in the race to an immunity-building medicine wins emergency use authorization. A U.S. government advisory panel convened on Thursday to decide whether to endorse large-scale use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to help conquer the outbreak that has killed close to 300,000 Americans.
