A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy died in a shootout with a suspect Monday afternoon, according to several reports.
The Hancock Sheriff’s Department identified the slain deputy as Lt. Michael Boutte. Boutte was shot and injured near Kiln, Mississippi, which borders Louisiana.

Boutte died of his injuries shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans.
The suspect in the shootout was also airlifted to a local hospital.
Island Police: High-speed chase through Ellsworth disrupts morning commute

A resident reported a cell phone that was found on the side of the road on Jan. 16 around 11:30 a.m. An officer retrieved the phone and is attempting to find its owner.
A high-speed chase that took place during the morning commute on Jan. 21 began on Route 3 and ended at the intersection of Oak and Church streets in Ellsworth. After receiving a call about a Toyota Tacoma operating erratically, a deputy located the truck on Route 3 and attempted to stop it using emergency lights and sirens, but the driver did not stop. With the officer in pursuit, the occupant of the Tacoma travelled into Ellsworth, driving head-on into traffic in a one-way section of High Street before reaching speeds of more than 75 mph farther down that street and running several red lights. ELLSWORTH A higher-than-average number of fraud complaints came into the Police Department this month. The same held true for shoplifting and theft investigations, summonses and charges.
Two local residents reported being scammed out of money, two reported possible fraud cases, and one woman said funds had been stolen from her PayPal account. One of the incidents was a tech support scam and cost the victim $149. The other scam resulted in the loss of $1,500. Both cases are under investigation, as is the PayPal incident. Police also spoke separately with two residents over possible fraud complaints on Jan. 22 and Jan. 25.
A 26-year-old Ohio man died in a fiery crash Monday afternoon after allegedly killing his father, driving off in his truck, and randomly shooting at people until police found him and began a pursuit, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was already looking for Jordan Garrett Suydam as a suspect in the early morning slaying of Arthur Suydam III, 53, in McComb and had issued a bulletin for him and the father’s Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Shortly before noon and more than 100 miles away, Columbus police received a report of shots fired from a pickup truck at a grocery store parking lot. The woman reported that a man had gotten out of the truck and fired three rounds as she and another man drove by.

MCCOMB, Ohio A man suspected of a homicide in McComb on Monday is believed to be dead following a shooting spree, a police pursuit and a pickup truck fire in Franklin County.
According to the Hancock County Sheriff s Office, Jordan Suydam was named as a person of interest in the killing of Arthur Suydam III of the 110 block of South Meadow Drive.
