A grand jury finds no criminal conduct in the death of a Hancock County inmate that happened in July 2020.
According to the report, Lauren Lindsey Darnell was an inmate at the Hancock County Jail and died on July 25
th, 2020. At the time, no suspicious circumstances were reported.
The report reads: “The grand jury finds no criminal conduct on behalf of corrections officers, jail medical staff, or any other director or subcontracted employee of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.”

Ellsworth Police Log Week of July 22
ELLSWORTH A man involved in a July 16 High Street accident near the Myrick Street and Kingsland Crossing intersection told police the driver of the car he struck approached him allegedly wanting to fight.
Dylan Sieber, 49, of Ellsworth struck a 1995 Saturn driven by Joseph Richartz, 23, of Hancock after Richartz allegedly stopped in the middle of the road, Sieber told police. Sieber was driving a 2015 Ford Transit van and said he initially stopped after the fender-bender but drove off upon seeing Sieber approach his van. He then pulled into the Walmart parking lot.
Richartz told Cpl. Shawn Merchant, the responding officer, that Sieber allegedly had been weaving in and out of traffic before the accident, coming to a stop twice in the middle of the road. Sieber alleged Richartz had passed him on the hill before the intersection and then stopped in the middle of the road, where Sieber could not avoid hitting his car. Damage to both vehicles was
