HOPKINS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - A crime fighter and companion is being commended.
This weekend, the Hopkins County Sheriffâs Office said goodbye to âK-9 Kane,â who worked from 2010 to 2017.
The sheriffâs office says he took drugs off the streets, apprehended criminals, as well as protected his partner and other deputies.
Since retiring, Kane has been living with his handler, Detective Joe Stratton, and his family.

HOPKINS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - No one was hurt after a train crashed into a semi in Hopkins County Monday morning.
The sheriff’s office says it happened around 6:12 a.m. on US 41 near Ed Brackett Road.
Deputies tell us the semi got stuck on the track before the train hit it.
The driver was able to get out.
The sheriff’s office says no one was hurt and the road is back open.

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest Saturday in connection with a shooting incident that put a man in an Indiana hospital.
Deputies received a call of a possible shooting at 179 Liberty Church Road and found 66-year old William Matheny with a gunshot wound.
The suspect, later identified as 48-year old Tara Skaggs of Madisonville, had fled the scene and was later located and arrested for first-degree assault (domestic violence).
Matheny was taken first to Baptist Health Hospital and later flown to Deaconess Hosptial in Evansville. ); } return false;
A Madisonville woman was arrested Saturday in connection to a man being shot and flown to an Evansville hospital.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a call of a possible shooting around 11:00 Saturday morning at 179 Liberty Church Road in Madisonville. When deputies arrived at the home they found 66-year old William Matheny had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene.
Deputies say 48-year old Tara Skaggs was taken into custody Saturday afternoon after they learned she was the shooting suspect during the investigation. Skaggs was lodged in the Hopkins County Jail charged with first-degree assault – domestic violence.
The Madisonville Police Department released the following reports on Friday:
Tanna Dunlap, 29, of Madisonville, was charged Thursday with buying or possessing drug paraphernalia and trafficking in a controlled substance.
Roger McCarty, 40, of Madisonville, was charged Thursday with public intoxication.
Amanda Bickers, 28, of Madisonville, was charged Thursday with failure to appear.
William Reynolds, 37, of Madisonville, was charged Thursday with failure to appear.
