Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch is optimistic about what 2021 will bring to the city. Without divulging any specifics, Mayor Lynch said during his regular appearance Friday morning on WHOP that he’s aware of expected opening of new businesses in the city this year.

Retired 502nd Battalion Commander Colonel Mark Armstrong Family members, friends and local leaders gathered in Hopkinsville Saturday afternoon for the annual Gander Memorial and Wreath Laying Ceremony to remember the Fort Campbell soldiers who were killed in a plane crash in Newfoundland over three decades ago. 2 nd Brigade Combat Team Commander Colonel Michael Kovacevic and retired 502nd Bravo Commander Colonel Mark Armstrong were the guest speakers at the memorial hosted by the Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce. 2nd Brigade Combat Team Commander, Colonel Michael Kovacevic Colonel Kovacevic said 35-years ago on December 12, 1985 the entire community of Fort Campbell was shaken by the news that 248 soldiers and eight crew members aboard Arrow Air Flight 1285 died in a crash in Gander, Newfoundland as they were returning home.

Mayor talks small business stimulus program, Gander remembrance ceremony

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Dec 11, 2020 8:56 AM Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch appeared on WHOP Friday morning to remind people of upcoming events and encourage business to apply for a stimulus grant. COVID-19 continues to impact the city and its residents, from the businesses to tourism and more Lynch says the small business stimulus program is still open for applications for eligible business, and it’s open until the end of December. Grants in the amounts of $750 to $2,000 are still available to those small businesses who need the help to balance the impact of the pandemic. Christmas has come to Hopkinsville in the form of decorations, with downtown, the Visitors Center, and the Trail of Tears Park lit up, along with numerous businesses. Mayor Lynch reminded people of the Gander Memorial ceremony set to take place Saturday at 12:12 p.m., which can also be viewed online on the Military Affairs Committee Facebook page.
