But how do the tests work and when are schools advised to use them?
Here s what you need to know:
Why is the state giving rapid tests to schools?
The tests were one of several ways to help reduce classroom disruptions caused by quarantines, according to the state.
The tests would help schools know right away if someone was positive for COVID, said Box, the state health commissioner. They are also part of shipments of PPE that include masks, gowns, gloves, face shields, hand sanitizer.
Where are the tests coming from and how many?
The state is providing the rapid tests to schools for free and plans are for each school to get at least 120 rapid tests, Box said when announcing the plans.

The Fishers Health Department has received 431 complaints for violations of its COVID-19 rules at businesses and public gatherings since the department began operations last April shortly after the pandemic outbreak.
All but two of the complaints resulted in verbal warnings from health officials, who explain the safety protocols to employees and owners during visits.
Two of the complaints were forwarded to Indiana State Excise Police for possible enforcement action, but no businesses have been closed because of repeat violations, said Fishers spokeswoman Ashley Elrod.
