Police: Salt truck driver nearly struck officers, dumped salt on cruiser during chase Jeanne Houck and Chris Mayhew, Cincinnati Enquirer Updated, 10:05 p.m.: A salt truck driver arrested Friday after Reading police said he almost struck two of its officers and sprayed them with salt as he fled is a city of Cincinnati employee. Cincinnati Assistant City Manager John Juech confirmed Omar Trip Armstrong, 36, is a Cincinnati Department of Public Services employee in a text to The Enquirer.  The allegations are serious, and we are monitoring the situation closely, Juech said. He would not say when Armstrong was hired or give any other details about his employment.

Omar Armstrong of College Hill, 36, was arrested early Friday and is held at the Hamilton County jail on charges of attempted aggravated vehicular assault, failure to comply with police, reckless operation and traffic offenses. He pleaded not guilty during a brief arraignment. A judge set his bond at $9,000.

During 2020 three members of Cincinnati City Council were charged by the federal government for their alleged roles in separate corruption cases. Former Democratic councilwoman Tamaya Dennard was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for wire fraud. Republican councilman Jeff Pastor is charged with bribery after his arrest in November. Democratic councilman P.G. Sittenfeld was also arrested in November for alleged bribery. Retired Hamilton County Common Pleas Court judge Ann Marie Tracey has been chosen to chair the panel.

1:01 Retired Hamilton County Judge Ann Marie Tracey will serve as chair. She says they plan to do a 360-degree review of the city s current development process. We re going to look at the hard copy guidelines that we find contained in the city charter; state law; state legislation; ethics laws; codes of conduct; we re going to look at best practices throughout the country, Tracey said. And in so doing, we hope to be able to formulate some recommendations to City Council and to the administration. Tracey is a former chair of the Ohio Ethics Commission.  I can t imagine having a more qualified person to be the chairperson of this commission, Cranley said. I m very proud and honored that she s willing to serve and we re lucky that she is.
