Ontario government to build new school in Hamilton
The province has given Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board approval to proceed to tender for a new St. Patrick’s Catholic Elementary School.

Hamilton is reporting 162 new cases of COVID-19 and four more deaths on Tuesday as dozens of outbreaks continue across the city.
The city has recorded 5,826 cases during the pandemic (both confirmed and probable). Of those, 1,317 are active and 4,292 resolved.
Statistics shared by public health show 162 people who had the virus have died, an increase of four compared to the day before. Three of the people who died were 80 or older and one was between 60 and 69, according to the city s website.
12 Hamilton students, 1 staff member test positive for COVID-19
Twelve more students and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 in Hamilton-area schools as of Wednesday.

The province teased extending the winter break weeks ago, but then backed off. Then, it hinted at an extended winter break late last week.
The news also follows the announcement of a province-wide shutdown and comes as COVID-19 cases and outbreaks continue to appear in Hamilton schools.
Families shouldn t expect perfection
Dawn Danko, chair of the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, wishes the announcement came a week or two ago. This is not a surprise, the number are not a surprise . I do welcome the focus on student safety, staff safety and community safety, but this decision needed to be made earlier. We really need to have some leadership on this, she said on Monday afternoon.

Fifteen more people across schools in Hamilton have tested positive for COVID-19 as the winter break begins. Thirteen of the cases were students and two were staff members.
The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board reported three students at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Elementary School as having the virus on Saturday. No outbreak is being declared, the school said.
