Body Recovered From River in Chicopee ID d as Missing 12-Year-Old Boy

An investigation remains ongoing. The recovery comes after months of searching for Blanchard, who went missing on Feb. 5. He was believed to have been heading to the Medina Street boat launch area, along the Connecticut River. The dive team found the body at 11:15 a.m. Thursday between the North End Bridge, over the Connecticut River, and Memorial Bridge, over the Chicopee River, according to Chicopee police.

Dushko Vulchev, 44, of Houlton, was charged by criminal complaint with four counts of damage to religious property involving fire and one count of use of fire to commit a federal felony. Vulchev is currently in state custody and will make an initial appearance in federal court in Springfield at a later date.

ACLU calls on Supreme Judicial Court to order investigation into Springfield Police Department over excessive force allegations Updated Apr 06, 2021; SPRINGFIELD The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against the Hampden district attorney’s office over what the advocacy group characterizes as a failure to investigate allegations of excessive force by the Springfield Police Department. The 353-page complaint petitions the Supreme Judicial Court to force a closer examination of accusations leveled in a U.S. Department of Justice report made public in July. In the report, federal investigators concluded members of the department’s narcotics unit routinely resorted to punching suspects in the head and neck and filed shoddy reports over physical altercations, if they filed any at all.
