Maine s VIP Tires & Service is up to 63 stores in four states, and counting

A new store that opened in Rutland, Vt., last fall was half tire store, half bike shop. Every store has a story, said Tim Winkeler, CEO of the Maine-based tire and service company. They all have such interesting stories. Recently, those stories have been stacking up. The company, based in Auburn, has been on a tear the past five years, with 40% growth. The company employs more than 500 at 63 stores in four states, 35 of them in Maine. In 2020, new stores opened in Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire. There were two relocations that involved major expansions in Maine the Windham store and one in Brunswick. More is planned for 2021, including store expansions and relocations in Auburn and Sanford.

The Union Leader reported that Kevin Walker of the Flatley Company said the developer is seeking an indefinite continuance for its site plan application to give the company more time to resolve issues with DES. The company says it needs additional time for the three-building R&D project as it works with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services on issues associated with groundwater contamination on the 45-acre site. The site abuts the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics plant, where PFAS emissions from the factory have contaminated hundreds of wells in the area.

Businesses circulate petition resisting Dalton landfill January 13, 2021LITTLETON More than 40 Littleton business owners signed a petition urging the Select Board to oppose the development of a proposed landfill in Dalton. The petitioners argue that local businesses rely heavily on the tourism draw of the Ammonoosuc River. The proposed landfill on Douglas Drive lies in close proximity to Forest Lake and is upriver from the downtown Littleton area. While the bulk of the land parcel rests within Dalton town limits, a portion of the acreage is within both Littleton and Bethlehem town lines as well. Voters can expect to see the non-binding petition on the March 9 ballot. It calls for the Select Board to resist any application approvals distributed by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services for the development.
