N H House Votes To Expand Gun Laws and Passes Republican-Backed Education Bills

Members passed HB 197, a bill that would expand that state s stand your ground law. Under the current law, in certain situations, New Hampshire citizens have the right to use deadly force against another person outside their own home. This bill would now extend that right to their vehicles. Rep. Daryl Abbas, a Republican of Salem, is the chairman for the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. He spoke in support of the bill. If article 2A of the New Hampshire constitution allows a person the right to bear arms to protect yourself, your family, your property and your state, it s only natural that our written laws would allow you to protect yourself and your family to the same degree inside your vehicle as if you were inside your home,” Abbas said.

NH rent assistance: State emergency assistance for rent and utilities

“This program will open up doors of opportunity and help New Hampshire families who have struggled through this pandemic,” Sununu said in a prepared statement. “We worked hard to open up as many channels of eligibility as possible so that no one struggling has to worry about making rent or keeping their lights or heat on.”  (The program announcement) will be welcome to the thousands of New Hampshire residents that continue to be challenged by financial and mental health difficulties during this more than yearlong historic pandemic, said Rochester Welfare Director Todd Marsh. The knowledge additional relief is in sight should ease anxieties, as we inch forward and out of this shared crisis.

Support solidifies for added boost to New Hampshire s Affordable Housing Fund

NH Business Review Measure to add another $10 million wins widespread backing at Senate committee hearing February 17, 2021 It seems like there’s a good chance more money will be appropriated into New Hampshire’s Affordable Housing Fund in order to fill the gap in financing for such housing. The money is in the budget proposed by Gov. Chris Sununu as part of Senate Bill 127, an omnibus appropriations bill proposed by Senate Majority leader Jeb Bradley, R-Wolfeboro. And now it is in SB 152, an affordable housing bill introduced Wednesday to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee by Sen. James Gray, R-Rochester, who sits on the committee, to Bradley who chairs it.
